If you decide to stay more days in the area, we recommend you take the opportunity to explore the charms of the surrounding area. From fascinating archaeological sites, such as the Segóbriga Archaeological Park, to picturesque villages with historical monuments, such as Uclés and Belmonte.

 

1. Segóbriga Archaeological Park

This is one of the main attractions of Saelices. This Roman site preserves an amphitheatre, a theatre and thermal baths. It offers a fascinating insight into life in a Roman city.

 

2. Uclés

Just 10 km from Saelices, this small town is home to the impressive Monastery of Uclés, known as the ‘Escorial de La Mancha’. It was the seat of the Order of Santiago and offers spectacular views and Renaissance architecture.

 

3. The Lakes of Villafranca de los Caballeros

A natural spot ideal for walks, bird-watching and enjoying nature. It is a little further away (about 30 km), but well worth it.

 

4. Belmonte

About 45 minutes drive away is the castle of Belmonte, a spectacular example of medieval architecture. You can also explore the picturesque old town.

 

5. Cuenca

If you can get a little further afield (approximately 1 hour's drive), don't miss the city of Cuenca, famous for its Casas Colgadas (hanging houses), old town and cathedral.

 

6. Hoz del Río Gritos

This natural spot near Saelices offers hiking routes through a landscape of gorges and canyons, ideal for enjoying nature.

 

7. Campo de Criptana

If you are interested in the famous windmills of Don Quixote, this place, about 50 km away, is perfect for an excursion.

 

8. Mota del Cuervo

Another quixotic point of interest, with restored windmills and wonderful views of La Mancha.

 

9. Tarancon

Just 20 minutes away by car, Tarancón has an interesting Gothic church (Nuestra Señora de la Asunción) and a good gastronomic offer.

 

10. La Mancha Wine Route

The region offers wineries for tasting La Mancha wines. Some of them are near Saelices, and you can combine them with cultural visits.
